30 January 2025

Erasmus+ Learning Mobility of Individuals projects are supported under Key Action 1 of the Erasmus+ programme, which aims to deliver positive and lasting impacts for participants and participating organisations. Mobility activities under this action are designed to broaden perspectives, support professional and personal growth, and foster collaboration.

Our Lady Queen of Peace Primary School is committed to inclusivity and the overall well-being of learners. As part of their Erasmus+ project, Outdoor Education and Fitness – Learning for All, the school aimed to equip their teachers and special needs assistants with the knowledge and skills required to maximise the use of their outdoor recreation area. Read on to learn more about the impact of their project on both pupils and staff involved!

The project focused on enhancing staff skills to adapt outdoor activities to meet the diverse needs of all learners, ensuring inclusive and engaging recreational opportunities for every student. The primary goal was to integrate meaningful outdoor experiences into the curriculum, promoting holistic development and well-being.

As part of their project, they organised training in outdoor education for selected staff members. This training provided practical strategies for planning and delivering outdoor education activities, with a focus on adapting content for various learner needs. Staff also gained valuable knowledge in fitness and nutrition, enabling them to design and deliver individual and group exercise programmes tailored to the pupils. Additionally, the staff explored various outdoor education activities and learned how to organise them effectively, enabling the school to provide more outdoor education learning opportunities in the future.

“When we saw participants actively engaged in outdoor activities, kayaking, trekking, and enjoying various sports, it was evident that this approach not only improved physical fitness, but also promoted teamwork, personal growth, and a deeper connection to the natural world.” James Malone, Teacher

The Outdoor Education and Fitness – Learning for All Erasmus+ project strengthened inclusion, enhanced teaching methods, promoted teamwork and increased staff and pupil understanding of health, nutrition and fitness. It serves as a best practice example of how Erasmus+ brings learning to life, supports staff to broaden their understanding and empower their pupils to thrive!
